My Favorite Home Birth Essentials

Everything I would recommend to help you prepare for a peaceful home birth.

Preparing for a home birth is an exciting season. While every birth is unique and every family’s needs are different, there are a few products that can make labor, birth, and postpartum more comfortable.

As a birth doula, I love sharing practical tools that help parents feel prepared—not overwhelmed. Below are some of my favorite home birth essentials that I recommend considering as you build your birth space.

Birth Pool

One of the biggest benefits of planning a water birth is the comfort that warm water can provide during labor.

A quality birth pool offers:

  • Extra cushioning
  • Plenty of room to move
  • Relaxation during contractions
  • Comfortable positions for labor

Why I love it: Many families describe laboring in water as one of the most effective natural comfort measures. And this creamy white pool is aesthetically pleasing for those birth photos! ๐Ÿ˜

 Birth Ball

A birth ball is one of the most versatile and beneficial tools you can have during pregnancy and labor. It encourages movement, promotes optimal fetal positioning, and provides a comfortable way to manage contractions naturally.

During labor, many mothers find that rocking, swaying, bouncing, or leaning over the ball helps them stay relaxed and cope with contractions.

There is nothing more special than welcoming a new baby into the world, especially in the comfort of your own home!

This commemorative birth certificate can be used as a birth announcement on social media, in your newborn's keepsake book, or as decor in your little babe's nursery.

Use the ink pad from this footprint keepsake kit for the birth certificate, and go ahead and do a couple more so you can frame them with your baby's newborn photo! You will look back at this for years to come.

Labor combs help manage childbirth pain by distracting the brain and stimulating specific acupressure points. When squeezed during a contraction, the teeth of the comb send non-painful sensory signals to the spinal cord that block or "close the gate" on contraction pain signals, offering a simple, drug-free coping tool.

This one even comes with a deck of labor position cards!

It's a good idea to take precaution and have a waterproof mattress protector for your bed as you near the big day! You never know where you may end up during that final stage of labor. An extra layer of padding wouldn't hurt either. These Hygge Sheets are washable and can absorb up to 8 cups of liquid! I would put these on the bed around 38 weeks, just in case your water breaks at night! Been there๐Ÿ˜ and I was not so prepared!

The most important essentials aren’t products—they’re education, a trusted birth team, and knowing your options.

Whether you’re planning your first home birth or adding another beautiful birth story to your family’s journey, I hope these recommendations help you feel more prepared for the incredible experience ahead.
